What if we were meant for more?
More than the allure of this fast-paced, digitized life that we all find ourselves in? A life that is currently tantalizing us to find happiness and peace and self worth with one more click, one more scroll, one more “buy”, one more like. It's as if we can technically be in two places at once; physically present, but mentally engaged somewhere else. And with that, comes double, if not triple, the burdens of “to-do” lists and needs and expectations which all “need” to be fulfilled NOW. NOW. NOW. But for what? And why? And at what cost?
All of this pressure has gotten to be too much to handle and navigate. It's becoming un-human. It's scattering my thoughts, my heart, my time and my very soul. To the point where I feel exhausted, overwhelmed and stuck. I feel more and more robotic and less of a person with a soul.
What if we were meant for more? Or dare I say, less? Slow? Centered?
I am always reminding myself to get outside and look out. It gives me perspective. Nature is scientifically proven to relieve stress, slow down the amygdala in our brains and help us to breathe. The green grass, blue skies and flowers are all composed like a beautiful symphony, created with pinpointed intention, purpose and beauty. But for what? And why? What added value do these lawns and fields and flowers give me? Could they be intentionally made by the One who created them? Could they be a gentle reminder that delighting in
beauty is ok? That seeking a life of peace and order and intention is GOOD?
I am always amazed at how quickly I can go from awe and wonder back to feeling the heavy demands that come from my phone and computer. It's something I will wrestle with for the rest of my life.
And so, I am excited to launch my “Among the Fields and Flowers” collection. A collection to encourage each other to get out there, among the fields and flowers, and delight in them all. Let them remind us who we are again and again. Drawing on my B.S. in Horticulture as well as my many years spent running a floral design company, each painting reflects freedom found in flowers and fields. This collection will be a little different from my past collections. It will be ongoing, with small releases scattered throughout the summer months, as I
continue to study and explore this abstract idea - the very garden of my soul; Where I crave beauty, long for peace and order, and strive to weed out the many distractions and lies of my own heart.
